i was here

Inspired lately by so many - most recently President and First Lady Obama as we look back at their imprint left on the face of humanity - I have been daring enough to say out loud that I want it all. I want the business that I've been dreaming of for years. I want the house, the moderately priced mid-size car, and kids. I want to help starving families in the United States and abroad. I want it all.

And this declaration is not only about what I would like to have, but what I am able to give. I want to give my all. I want for every ounce of my potential to be used in this lifetime.

I Was Here, written by Diane Eve Warren and performed by Beyonce, has been one of my favorite songs for a few years now. Not because of its instrumentation or vocalization, but because this song is more of a life creed.

When I think of what I want to accomplish in this lifetime - what I need to do now in order to escape regret later - I think of the lyrics to this song. I have a burning desire, more now than ever before, to use every ounce of talent, love, strength and wit given me for the common good. The common good being my neighbor, the hundreds or maybe even thousands of people that I will encounter on earth before my life's end.

I leave you with the lyrics to I Was Here which so eloquently express my heart's desire.

I want to leave my footprints on the sand of time
Know there was something that, something that I left behind
When I leave this world, I’ll leave no regrets
Leave something to remember, so they won’t forget

I was here, I lived, I loved, I was here
I did, I’ve done, everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know, I was here

I wanna say I lived each day, until I died
And know that I, been something in, somebody’s life
The hearts I have touched
Will be the proof that I leave
That I made a difference
And this world will see

I was here, I lived, I loved, I was here
I did, I’ve done, everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know

I was here, I lived, I loved, I was here
I did, I’ve done, everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know, I was here

I just want them to know
That I gave my all, did my best
Brought someone some happiness
Left this world a little better just because, I was here

I was here, I lived, I loved, I was here
I did, I’ve done, everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I wanna leave my mark so everyone will know

I was here, I lived, I loved, I was here
I did, I’ve done
I was here, I lived, I loved, I was here
I did, I’ve done, I was here
